Happy Mother’s Day!

We at In the Quiver want to celebrate motherhood with you! Maybe you are celebrating with your mother or reflecting on the memories of your mom’s life. Perhaps you are presently in the throes of mothering young children, or maybe your children are grown and you are remembering the gift of being their mom. Motherhood is celebrated differently depending upon the circumstances and stages of our lives.

On this holiday where mothers are celebrated, we as moms are often the ones filled with gratitude for the lives God has placed our care. (Shhh… don’t tell our families because we still like for them to spoil us!) But sometimes the days can get the best of us, and we need to be refreshed. We can be encouraged as adoptive mothers, biological mothers, or grandmothers by knowing no matter where we are or how the day is going, God is holding us.

We want to share with you a poem written by Megan Hogg. Megan was a former contributor to In the Quiver. And while we miss hearing from her regularly, we know she is spending her time perfectly with her two littles.

Days

The morning begins staccato
Sharp baby cries and pounding fists
Then eases into a smoother song
Coffee pouring, babies rolling

Miniature giggles and coos
Beads shaking in their rattle
The afternoon slowly unfurls
Punctuated by nursing and naps

Night approaches hesitantly
Some eyes close, others are wide
Until the quiet seeps in
And decides to stay awhile

I rest for now, comforted
Knowing that I am held
Just as I hold and comfort
As night spills into morning again
