I’ve always loved this saying:
If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb.
Of course, the opposite, then, is a given: If March comes in like a lamb, it will go out like a lion. I like windy days. They often remind me that I’m in the very presence of the breath of God.
Lots of times, on breezy days, I’d remind the kids of Isaiah 55:12—
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Noisy, rustling leaves and swaying, dancing branches make me think the trees are dancing with joy at the breath of the Lord, clapping their hands at his goodness. After all, Jesus said in Luke 19:40 that if his disciples “kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers.” Surely if the rocks can cry out if humans don’t generate enough praise of the Lord, then the trees can clap and praise just the same!
March can be a notoriously breezy month. Why not study some verses about God’s windy treasuries this month and share them with the family as a reminder of God’s might and power and creativity.
Here’s a few to help you get started:
- He spoke, and the winds rose, stirring up the waves (Psalm 107:25).
- He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries (Psalm 135:7).
- He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes. He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast? He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes and the waters flow (Psalm 147:15-18).
- Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know! (Proverbs 30:4)
- He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth – the Lord God Almighty is his name (Amos 4:13).
- The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (John 3:8).
- But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6).
Enjoy the breezy, perhaps blustery, days of March with the family. Try memorizing some of the verses above to remind you that those wind currents come straight from God’s treasuries! What an amazing thought. It’s like being kissed by God!

I love this! I grew up a Kansas girl and the wind on the prairie is mighty. A bit more subdued here in TN but more cherished. I will think of this now when it blows!

Loretta, I’ve never had the opportunity to spend much time in Kansas. I think a conference I attended was right on the state line, but I was indoors mostly. I’ve heard those winds can be mighty! We lived in California for one tour of duty for my husband’s Navy career and the Santa Ana winds were miserably hot, but that was my first time to see a tumbleweed in person, blowing across base valleys. So, like you, the winds here in Georgia are more subdued, but no less of a reminder of our God’s mighty power! Thanks for the comment!

Don’t mind a gentle breeze as you described at all Ms. Julie, but when they’re blowing the steel siding off my hay barn, I want to ask; “Can you take it easy on me Lord?” Of course, He never gives me more than I can handle; but He does love to stretch me some days.

J.D. – I know what you mean about those mighty and damaging winds. As you probably remember, we’ve been through more hurricane watches than I want to recall. Being an hour from Savannah, GA and the coast, we tend to get some of those hurricane winds, and though they still remind me of God’s presence and his power, I much prefer those gentle breezes rustling through the tops of the trees! I LOVE knowing that God is responsible for every part of creation and this beautiful world that surrounds me! His creativity never ceases to amaze me, and when He sends those gentle breezes that make His creations dance and praise Him with rustling leaves and swaying branches, I just smile, thinking of Him saying, “And it is good.” Thanks for the comment!

It is April now, but for the last several days we’ve had blustery winds. It’s been hot so I’ve welcomed the cooling breeze. Reminds me that God knows our needs and is there–in the warmth of Spring, the beautiful flowers, the majestic foliage of the towering oak, and in the wind.
